PoYo Putty

"Mix & Apply By Hand" Mold Putty.
The Fastest, Most Hassle-Free Way
Yet To Make Molds.

Mold putties are a fairly new arrival on the mold-making scene. They continue to grow in popularity, and Smooth-On is pleased to introduce “PoYo”, a tin cured system that is easy to use, cures quickly and is less expensive than similar mold putty products currently available.

Mix & Apply By Hand - No Mess: Parts A & B are measured and mixed by hand. Officially, the by-volume mix ratio is 20A : 1B, and measuring may take some getting used to at first. Once you understand the nuances of the system, you'll see that the product has advantages over brushing or pouring rubber over a model for certain applications.

Quick. Go Mold A Tree - One sculptor perfectly reproduced a tree bark pattern directly from a living tree; testimony to the "Use It On-The-Spot" versatility of PoYo™.

There are no measuring cups, mixing containers, mixing sticks, etc. required to use PoYo™ Putty. And because PoYo™ catalyzes quickly, the risk of cure inhibition is reduced vs. conventional silicones.
The goal was to reproduce a tree bark pattern. PoYo™ was mixed and applied outdoors, on site and with no surface preparation. The mold was removed from the tree in less than 1 hour. Smooth-Cast 325 urethane resin, black pigment and filler were then used to make castings that look exactly like tree bark.

Using PoYo Putty to Repair a Picture Frame

Some Usage Tips For PoYo Putty -
Use vinyl or non-powdered latex gloves to use PoYo Putty. The putty will stick to powder coated latex gloves and make the material harder to mix.

Although we advise the use of gloves as a matter of standard “good housekeeping”, there are many customers who use this product with their bare hands. It will feel sticky at first, but the product catalyzes quickly and is removed from your hands completely by the time you are finished applying rubber to the model surface.

Matrix NEO, playsand and pigment are mixed and cast into the mold to create a casting identical to the original.. If the model is a clay original, pressing the
rubber onto the surface may disturb surface
detail. Some customers will brush-on an initial layer or "print coat" of Mold Max 20 or 30 and let it tack up before applying P
oYo Putty to protect surface detail.

The pot life is short, which means you have a limited time to apply the putty. If applying to a large model, you will have to apply the putty to the model surface in
sections. Take the time to marry the seams of different sections to prevent visible seam lines in the finished mold and castings.
People That Have Tried PoYo, Are Buying PoYo.

People are already using PoYo for a variety of applications. Smooth-On Seminar graduates in the field of Archeology and law enforcement (The FBI), for example, have tried PoYo and are very excited about its' On-The-Spot usability. We have veterinarians using PoYo to make impressions of horses’ hooves to treat ailing horses and to make custom horse shoes. We’re sure to be seeing applications for PoYo that we have not imagined.

Availability - PoYo
40 - PoYo Putty is currently available in Shore 40A durometer. On a price per pound / kilo basis, PoYo is more expensive than conventional tin catalyzed silicone products (Mold Max, for example). However, less material is used and there is no waste. The convenience factor of this product is very attractive, depending on the application. Try molding tree bark on-site with conventional silicones (or urethane rubber) and you’ll see what we mean.
