Psycho Paint: Creating
Mind Blowing Skin Effects

Smooth-On soft platinum silicones continue to grow in popularity for creating a variety of special effects. Customers have sent us images of amazing monsters, animal reproductions, wounds, scars, etc. made with Dragon Skin and Ecoflex products.

Psycho Paint™ - is a two component platinum silicone that is pigmented with Silc-Pig™ silicone pigments and then thinned with a solvent to make a paint that readily adheres to any cured platinum silicone. The mixture is applied using a brush or an air brush to a model’s surface. Until now, people have colored their creations with a paint made of Dragon Skin™ (or Ecoflex™) and Silc-Pig™ pigments. These products however have high viscosities that limit what you can achieve.

Layers of Psycho Paint
can quickly create
spectacular skin effects

that last as long as
the appliance.

Psycho Paint™ Advantages - Psycho Paint™ has a low viscosity that allows it to be delivered to a model’s surface with an air brush. A lower viscosity also makes Psycho Paint™ easier to control. Psycho Paint™ layers on better and stays where you put it. The lower viscosity also allows you to spray Psycho Paint™ using an air brush and makes paint effects (like "stippling") easier to achieve. Psycho Paint™ is also faster curing and it adheres very well to itself and other platinum silicones.

Psycho Paint Part A and Part B are measured in equal amounts into a mixing container. Start with a small amount. You can add more if needed. Two parts of Toluene are added for airbrushing.
Psycho Paint is colored
with Silc Pig pigments.
Components are mixed to
a uniform color.
Psycho Paint is dispensed into an airbrush (available at many hobby shops).
Paint is applied evenly by moving the airbrush back and forth. A little Psycho Paint goes a long way. Different colored layers can be applied to create color effects. More Psycho Paint is mixed and applied with a brush.

Psycho Paint adheres well and can be stretched or flexed without delaminating or cracking. Great for repetitive motion applications.
